What is a laser cutting machine and how does it work?
Laser cutting machine uses laser beam as a heat source and is designed for high-precision metal cutting. Depending on the design of the equipment, there are laser cutting machines for sheet metal, pipes and combined models for sheets and pipes.
The machine focuses high energy density laser beam on the surface of the material. The laser energy is converted into heat, locally heating the metal to the melting or vaporizing temperature. The melted or vaporized material is removed auxiliary gas flow, resulting in a precise and clean cut.
This principle of operation provides high precision, speed and cutting quality, therefore, laser equipment is widely used in modern metalworking.
What materials can be cut with a laser machine?
Laser machine suitable for cutting a wide range of metals, in particular:
- stainless steel;
- carbon steel;
- alloy steel;
- silicon steel;
- aluminum and aluminum alloys;
- galvanized sheet;
- aluminum-zinc steel;
- etched sheet;
- titanium;
- other metal sheets.
Laser cutting is widely used in various metalworking industries, in particular in sheet metal production, kitchen equipment, aerospace industry, electrical cabinets, automotive parts, construction and agricultural machinery and other areas.
How to choose a laser machine that will exactly meet your needs?
When choosing a laser machine, we recommend paying attention to: 10 main factors:
- Laser power
- Cutting speed
- Cutting accuracy
- Laser source type
- Automation level and software
- Total cost of ownership
- Material compatibility
- Technical support and service
- Room and installation requirements
- Environmental requirements and safety
What cutting capabilities do lasers of different powers have?
Power fiber laser directly affects its cutting capabilities. Laser sources of different powers are suitable for working with different types and thickness of materials.
The higher the laser power, the greater the thickness of metal that can be processed, and in many cases, the higher the cutting speed can be achieved.
The following article provides a detailed overview of the cutting capabilities for the main power ranges of fiber lasers — from 1.5 to 80 kW.
What should you pay attention to when maintaining a laser machine?
For stable operation of laser equipment, high cutting quality and prevention of malfunctions, it is important to perform regular maintenance:
- Optics and nozzles: Clean the protective lenses regularly with a special optical cloth and replace them if they are scratched. Check the nozzles for dirt and damage, clean with a brass brush or replace deformed ones. Be sure to wear gloves when handling the lenses.
- Focusing and adjusting: Even with autofocus, periodically check the focus position and adjustment accuracy according to the material thickness.
- Equipment cleanliness: After each shift, clean the pallets of slag, wipe the surfaces, remove metal dust, and clean the guides and rails.
- Gas and pneumatic systems: Monitor the adequacy of the auxiliary gas supply, replace air filters in a timely manner, drain condensate from receivers, and check dryers and pipelines for damage or blockage.
- Security systems: Regularly check emergency buttons, door locks, light barriers and safety guards.
- Backing up settings: Back up your machine settings and cutting parameters weekly.
- Lubrication: Monitor the oil level, add the recommended lubricant if necessary, check the oil circuits and clean moving parts from dust.
- Consumables: Replace nozzles, ceramic rings and protective lenses in a timely manner according to the intensity of use to avoid unexpected downtime.
- Coolant: Use clean distilled or demineralized water. Add antifreeze at temperatures below 0 °C. Change the coolant periodically.
- Electrical system: Circuit breakers, electrical connections and wiring should only be checked by qualified electricians.
- Maintenance log: Record materials used, cutting parameters and detected faults. This helps to monitor the condition of the equipment and identify potential problems in a timely manner.
What advantages does laser cutting have compared to traditional methods?
Laser cutting replaces traditional mechanical tools non-contact laser beam, which provides high accuracy, speed and processing quality. Due to the possibility of automatic cutting and optimal use of material, laser machines are gradually improving and replacing traditional metal cutting methods.
Main advantages:
- High cutting precision and stable repeatability of the result.
- High processing speed, which shortens the production cycle.
- Non-contact cutting: The working elements of the laser head do not contact the workpiece, so mechanical scratches do not occur on the surface.
- Clean and smooth edges — in most cases, additional processing after cutting is not required.
- Minimum thermal impact zone, which reduces metal deformation.
- Narrow cut — usually close 0.1–0.3 mm, depending on the equipment and cutting parameters.
- No mechanical stresses and burrs from shearing.
- No need to make molds for cutting complex contours.
- Processing flexibility: CNC allows you to cut almost any flat contours without changing the mechanical tool.
- Material savings: Automatic nesting of parts helps optimize cutting and reduce waste.
- Reduced operating costs thanks to automation and high productivity.
What is the warranty period for a laser machine?
On The assembled laser machine is guaranteed for 2 years.
Major components and consumables are replaced according to their actual service life. For customers in different countries, also available original components.
- Calculating the cost of spare parts — within 24 hours.
- Delivery time — 3–7 business days.
- Replacement of components is primarily carried out through the nearest representative offices or local service centers.
Does the laser pipe cutting machine have an automatic correction function?
Yes. Our machines are usually equipped with modern CNC systems with automatic centering function based on capacitive measurement.
The system determines the actual dimensions of the pipe and automatically adjusts its position according to the specified profile model. It also provides real-time pipe deflection compensation, which reduces the requirements for clamping accuracy and increases the accuracy of piercing and cutting.
This provides more stable positioning, higher machining accuracy and quality of finished parts.
